"I have been a practising midwife for the last 7 years graduating from the University is Surrey in 2010. I have been fortunate enough to work across most areas of the maternity services during my career, working in high risk obstetric units, community clinics and a low risk birth centre. Being a midwife is a role I feel incredibly privileged to have and I am passionate about empowering women to be able to make informed decisions about the care they receive, to enable their pregnancy and birth to be a positive experience. I firmly believe that education and continuity of care in a relaxed, non judgemental environment contribute hugely to a woman's confidence in her body to birth her baby. I'm passionate about teaching classes that support families during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.
As well as a midwife I'm also a mum of an almost 12 year old daughter. It was the outstanding care and compassion shown to me during my somewhat complicated pregnancy and birth, that inspired me to become a midwife. I was then lucky enough to be mentored by some of those very midwives during my training. It was my own experience of postnatal depression and the challenges of being a single parent, that have driven me to ensure that parents are prepared and supported during this new and sometimes uncertain time of their lives.
